The State Capital, part 4

In 1900 the new capital building was completed. The previous one having cost 6 times more than budgeted had angered New Mexicans and this building was completed for the low price of only $140,000.
Once again, it was not "Santa Fe style" and many people did not really care for it, especially not for the dome.
However, seeing it now, without the dome and with the front facade changed, I find it much more pleasing in it's original state. In fact, I would go so far as to say it should be restored to it's original state.
The building is now Bataan Memorial Building in honor of those who were forced to participate in the Bataan Death March, many of which were New Mexicans. It houses various government agencies and looks almost nothing like the original building.
