A Santa Fe man arrested for second-degree murder of his friend now says he was only helping his friend commit suicide.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that Brian Stengal told them he stabbed and killed Cary Clark last week because Clark wanted to commit suicide.
Stengal says the two were drinking and talking about suicide when Clark decided to kill himself. Clark got on the floor and stabbed himself in the chest, but he didn't die.
Stengal says that is when Clark asked him to finish the job.
