Clovis man killed in wind storm

Wow!

CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - A Clovis man was killed after a blast of wind caught a door of a semitrailer and slammed him into a loading dock wall.

Curry County Undersheriff Wesley Waller says 35-year-old Juan R. Chavez suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital. Waller says the freak accident happened Saturday morning as Chavez was prepping the truck at the Southwest Cheese.

Southwest Cheese Human Resources Manager Brenda Miller says Chavez was a warehouse operator. He had worked at the plant since it opened in October 2006 and was a well-liked employee.

The wind was part of a spring wind storm that pounded eastern New Mexico Saturday with 65 mph gusts.
